Zosia Mamet just opened up about a rough experience on a big TV show that forced her to walk away from it entirely. She disclosed the story in her essay collection, ‘Does This Make Me Funny?’
Mamet joined the show as a recurring character when it was already a hit. However, what looked like a great opportunity soon became stressful. She says the showrunner was “an intense human.” His presence could change the entire mood on set.
One rehearsal, which ended up being one of her last, got especially tense. She was supposed to remove a few photos from a manila envelope. But that showrunner suddenly shouted, “Cut!” and came over. Mamet says that he asked, “What the f— are you doing?” She replied, “Um…rehearsing?”
Then she says, “He grabs my hand that’s holding the manila envelope, and he says, ‘No! What the f— are you doing with this! That’s not how you take something out of an envelope! Do it again!'”
This went on for about half an hour. At that time, everyone else just avoided eye contact. After finishing the scene, Zosia Mamet went home and called her agents to exit the show.
Mamet didn’t name the show or that showrunner. However, according to fans, it might be Mad Men and Matthew Weiner. Her last scene, in which she shows her character displaying graphic photos as a photographer, actually matches her final appearances on the show.
Representatives for Mamet and Weiner didn’t respond to requests for comment. Weiner has also faced previous allegations of workplace misconduct. He also denied those allegations.
