The dynamic duo is back! After almost two decades apart, the legendary actors Denzel Washington and Spike Lee have finally teamed up again for a new thriller, “Highest 2 Lowest,” and the trailer has already created serious buzz among fans.
The last collaboration of both actors was the 2006 crime hit Inside Man. Before that, both legendary actors gave us unforgettable classics such as Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Malcolm X (1992), and He Got Game (1998). And now, after 19 long years, they have decided to return with a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s film High and Low (1963).
In the trailer, Denzel Washington plays David King, who is a wealthy and esteemed music executive. He tried his best to reclaim control of the label he once sold. However, everything changes when a kidnapping plot goes wrong.
His chauffeur’s son is taken by mistake instead of his own. Now, David is torn between protecting his values and saving a life. This is all while dealing with the pressure of power, wealth, and ethics.
The kidnapper is played by A$AP Rocky, whose commanding voice and intense performance instantly stand out. The film also stars Elijah Wright, Jeffrey Wright, and Aubrey Joseph, as well as introduces rapper Ice Spice in her big-screen debut. Other cast members are Dean Winters, LaChanze, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Wendell Pierce.
Alan Fox wrote the screenplay. The movie had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Here, the movie screened out of competition. On the red carpet, the legendary actor Lee gave a hint that this could be his last film with Washington. He called it the last chapter in their five-film journey.
Highest 2 Lowest will be in theaters on August 15, and it will stream on Apple TV+ starting September 5.
