A shockwave has gone through the K-pop industry, and fans are having mixed feelings.

Through his agency SM Entertainment, Chen, member of Korean pop band EXO, announced that he will soon be marrying his non-celebrity girlfriend. But the most surprising news was the announcement that he and his future wife were expecting a baby.

Born Kim Jong-dae, the star said via a handwritten letter to fans posted on SM’s official community board, “I have a girlfriend, who I want to share the rest of my life with. While I was discussing with other EXO members and company officials about delivering the news, a ‘blessing’ came to us.”

Chen went on to say, “I didn’t want to take more time, so decided to take courage. I am thankful to my members for their good wishes, and I want to thank my fans for their love. I will keep striving to reciprocate the love.”

SM Entertainment later confirmed the news as well as the marriage, minus the date.

“Chen met a very precious person and the two will get married,” the agency said.

Because Chen’s girlfriend is not a celebrity, the wedding ceremony will be private.

EXO is one of South Korea’s biggest K-pop acts, originally debuting in 2012. They recently released their latest album, titled “Obsession.” While many fans are congratulating Chen on his engagement and fiancée’s pregnancy, some are not, reacting angrily to the news and demanding he leave EXO.
