You know what was fun when I was a kid? Hearing all the different names people came up with for the enemies in Mario games. Everyone knew the Goombas and Koopa Troopas, of course, but for every other enemy type? Well, nobody read the manuals, so we all just came up with our own names for things. I called Chain Chomps “woof-woofs” and Piranha Plants “biters.”

Over the course of various platformers, RPGs, and other assorted adventures, the Mario series has accumulated quite a library of miscellaneous mooks. There’s so many of these jobbers, it’s a wonder anyone can keep track of them all. Well, I can keep track of them, because I started reading the manuals. But let’s see if you can.
