Giant dudes with giant attitudes.
I was having a spirited discussion with a friend the other day about the two different kinds of giant robots: super robots and mobile suits. I won’t bore you with the details (super robots are better, I know I’m right), but it’s kind of amusing when you realize that giant robots have become such a pop culture staple that you can actually have a debate about such a thing.
The concept of mecha has actually existed since the 1800s. Jules Verne wrote about a piloted, steam-powered mechanical elephant in his 1880 novel La Maison à vapeur. The modern genre of dudes piloting giant robots against other robots and monsters was popularized by Mazinger Z in 1972, and ever since then, we just can’t get enough giant robots.
Even I don’t know every giant robot ever made, but I do know quite a few of them. Can you say the same?
