Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone have been close friends, so they tell each other the truth, even if it’s about the choice of hair. Recently, Lawrence said that she wasn’t too excited when she knew that Stone might shave her head for her upcoming movie Bugonia, which is the new project with director Yorgos Lanthimos.
“I really didn’t want her to shave her head,” Lawrence told Vogue. “I had already lived through the Billie Jean King haircut.”
Emma Stone had that King haircut in 2017 when she played the role of tennis legend Billie Jean King in the film Battle of the Sexes with Steve Carell. But in Bugonia, Stone plays the role of a pharmacy company CEO who gets kidnapped by the people who believe in conspiracy theories.
And in one important scene, they shave her head. In essence, both Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis chop her real hair for that particular part.
Lawrence was skeptical at first. However, her opinion changed when she saw the final result. “Honestly, she looked beautiful. She pulled it off,” she said.
Stone agreed and said that the experience was actually freeing. She said, “The first shower when you’ve shaved your head? Oh my God, it’s amazing.”
However, she also admitted that the transformation wasn’t all fun. It stirred up her emotions and reminded her of when her mother, Krista Stone, lost her hair while fighting breast cancer in 2008.
“She actually did something brave,” Stone said. “I’m just shaving my head.”
Stone added that her mom was “so jealous” of the look and couldn’t wait to see it for herself.
Stone’s new film, Bugonia, is expected to hit theaters on October 24.
