Once again, Pokémon stuff makes mounds of cash.

We’re one day away from the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus on the Nintendo Switch, and the hype thrusters are on full blast. Pre-release reviews have been very promising, with the game maintaining an 86% Metacritic score based on 41 critical reviews at time of writing. Critics have praised the game’s new takes on established series norms, with one of the only really consistent complaints being the graphical quality.

Thanks to the positive early reception, on top of the gargantuan hype that Pokémon stuff usually drums up anyway, Pokémon Legends: Arceus has already topped Amazon’s best selling video game charts in multiple countries. Some Amazon stores in the United States and United Kingdom have already sold through their first wave of copies, and order density is so high that smaller storefronts are experiencing delays. The success is not especially surprising; Pokémon is literally (not metaphorically, literally) the most profitable franchise in the entire world, regularly selling more stuff than Mickey Mouse or Hello Kitty.

Recently, the majority of the game was leaked online ahead of its release, though rather than harming its potential sales, the leaks only seemed to increase hype, as people were apparently liking what they saw. Whether or not Legends: Arceus will bring in the same overall sales numbers as the mainline games remains to be seen, but it’s already at an excellent start.
