A prominent Tinder con man has been barred from most major dating apps.

Earlier this month, Netflix released a new documentary entitled The Tinder Swindler, which details the crimes of one Simon Leviev. According to the documentary, which includes statements given by several of Leviev’s victims, he would regularly contact women through the dating service Tinder and create an elaborate ruse painting himself as the son of a wealthy Israeli diamond magnate under threat from industry competitors. He would trick his victims into opening credit cards for him, then steal thousands of dollars and ghost them.

According to a statement from Tinder given to E! News, Leviev was banned from their service after they conducted an investigation a couple of years ago. “We banned Simon Leviev and any of his known aliases as soon as the story of his actions became public in 2019. He is permanently banned from Tinder. In the lead up to the release of the documentary, we conducted additional internal investigations and can confirm Simon Leviev is not active on Tinder under any of his known aliases.”

In addition to this, however, the renewed publicity brought about by the Netflix documentary has prompted several other prominent dating services to preemptively ban Leviev from their platforms. A representative for Match Group explained to TMZ that Leviev had been blacklisted from all of the dating services under their brand, which includes several prominent apps and sites such as OkCupid, Hinge, and Match.com.
