Hollywood Boulevard looked different this week. It is not because of a red carpet but because of protesters outside the Jimmy Kimmel Live studio. The late-night show was suddenly suspended, and people wasted no time showing up with signs and chants to support their favorite host.
ABC confirmed earlier in the day that the show was being put on hold after Nexstar Media Group said it would not air the program anymore. Nexstar Media Group controls several ABC stations. The move came just days after Jimmy Kimmel’s comments about the suspect accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk was shot on September 10 when he was speaking at an event in Utah. His death sparked heated reactions worldwide. It is being said that Kimmel’s comments on the matter only made things worse.
Outside the El Capitan Entertainment Centre, where the show films, protesters called the suspension unfair. One supporter told reporters, “Jimmy only said what many of us were thinking. Silencing him is just wrong.”
Videos from NBCLA showed Kimmel and the protests quietly leaving the building.
Trump, never one to hold back, celebrated the news on his Truth Social account. He called the cancellation news “great news for America” and mocked ratings of Kimmel. He even took shots at other late-night hosts, daring NBC to drop Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers too.
For now, the future of Jimmy Kimmel Live hangs in the balance. Will ABC bring it back, or is this the end of one of late-night’s longest-running shows? Fans have made it clear that they are not ready to say goodbye.
