Adam Scott has recently opened up about the struggle he experienced in his early career. The Severance and Parks and Recreation star revealed that he came close to playing the role of David Fisher in HBO’s hit drama Six Feet Under. The role eventually went to Michael C. Hall. Scott himself calls his performance “perfect” in Six Feet Under.

In a recent appearance on Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang, Scott expressed how losing out on this hit role made a lasting impact. “It wouldn’t be nearly as good if I had done it because he was perfect and incredible,” Scott said. “He’s incredible and I wasn’t ready.”

Adam Scott confessed that the rejection hit him hard at that time. He even thought about quitting acting altogether. “That was hard,” Scott expressed. “It was painful when the show became such a big hit, but those experiences are important too.”

It is interesting to note that Scott later made a return to the series in a different role.

In season 2, he guest-starred as Ben Cooper, who had a short date with Hall’s character, David Fisher. Their relationship came to an end when David admitted he still feels for his on-and-off partner, Keith, who was played by Mathew St. Patrick. Recalling the memory, Scott said that the guest role was “fun” and praised Hall as “lovely.”

Poehler also revealed that the finale of Parks and Recreation, where fans got to see the future lives of the beloved characters, was basically inspired by Six Feet Under. The HBO series is famous for its highly emotional finale. The finale showed how each character eventually died.
