Good news for the fans of Saturday Night Live! Scarlett Johansson has confirmed that her husband, Colin Jost, is officially coming back to the “Weekend Update” desk when season 51 of the NBC show starts this fall.
Johansson shared the news at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her first film as a director, ‘Eleanor the Great.’ When asked about Jost, she kept it simple and straightforward: “He’s going back to work.”
Jost has been a fixture on SNL for years. He joined the writing team way back in 2005. By 2014, he had taken over as “Weekend Update” anchor. Since then, he and Michael Che have become one of the longest-running and most beloved duos in the history of the show. In fact, Jost now has the record for the most time behind the “Update” desk.
It’s not yet confirmed whether Che will be joining him this season. However, honestly, it’s actually tough to imagine one without the other.
This season of SNL will still bring big changes. There are several cast members, like Heidi Gardner and Devon Walker, who won’t be returning. Moreover, a few writers are also leaving. On the other hand, five new cast members are set to join, including Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall. The lineup is shifting, but Jost’s return feels like the anchor fans can count on.
Johansson, who’s hosted SNL seven times herself, didn’t rule out another surprise appearance. She laughed about how last-minute things can be at 30 Rock. She said it usually happens “the night before.”
Saturday Night Live season 51 premieres October 4 on NBC and Peacock.
