Tim Myers, one of the founding members of the popular pop band OneRepublic, is campaigning for lieutenant governor of California in 2026.
In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday, he thanked his early supporters and pointed out the media coverage about his campaign he had already received.
“People across California are speaking up — and saying what we all know: it’s time for change. The status quo in our politics isn’t working,” wrote Myers, who’s running as a Democrat. “Let’s write a new song for California — together!”
Myers stated he wants to bring a “fresh, strong voice to the Lt. Governor’s office to fight back against the Trump administration, take on the rigged system with commonsense solutions, and ensure every Californian has the opportunity to chase their dreams, can afford to make a living here, and feels safe.”
The candidate, Tim Myers, had been a member of the Grammy-nominated band from 2002 to 2007. Later, he embarked on his own music company – Palladium Records. He hasn’t only released music himself, but he has also written and composed songs for popular artists like Kesha, Michelle Branch, and many more.
Back in April, Myers had announced that he planned to run for Congress and take on Republican Ken Calvert. Later, he changed his mind and instead chose to run for lieutenant governor.
As part of his campaign, Myers announced he intends to stand against President Donald Trump. He also added that he had seen things that really disturbed him since he stepped into politics.
“California is under attack,” he said. “Donald Trump and his allies are deliberately targeting our state: cutting Medicaid and kicking millions of California adults and children off healthcare, threatening funding for our colleges and public schools, and sending ICE to intimidate peaceful communities.”
June marks the primary phase of the election, with November scheduled for the final race.
