Jimmy Kimmel didn’t hold back this Christmas. The comedian and talk show host took aim at former President Donald Trump during a televised holiday speech in the United Kingdom. Known for his sharp humor and past clashes with Trump, Kimmel delivered what he called an “alternative Christmas message” on British Channel 4.
The 58-year-old started by admitting he wasn’t fully familiar with the Channel 4 tradition of hosting unusual Christmas messages. But he quickly made it clear he had plenty to say about Trump. “From a fascism perspective, this has been a really great year. Tyranny is booming over here,” Kimmel joked, giving a playful yet pointed comment on politics.
He also mentioned his temporary suspension from ABC. Kimmel told viewers that Trump tried to “shut me up because I don’t adore him in the way he likes to be adored.” Luckily, public support helped him return to the network. “We won, the president lost, and now I’m back on the air every night,” he said with a grin. He even called Trump “King Donny the Eighth” and joked about how the former administration had “figuratively and literally” hurt America’s democracy.
Kimmel didn’t spare his own country either. He called the U.S. “a right mess” politically and asked the British to forgive America. “Don’t give up on us,” he said, adding that things could improve by the 2028 presidential election.
He ended on a warm note, saying, “We’re not all like him, we’re not all like that. It may not seem like it, but we love you guys.” His speech aired just a few hours after King Charles III’s royal Christmas message, giving viewers a funny, pointed, and memorable alternative holiday speech.
