Spider-Man: Brand New Day just had its best weekend yet, and it’s closing in fast on one of the biggest records in movie history.
Over its fourth weekend in theaters, the Marvel sequel earned another $39 million domestically and $109 million worldwide. That brings it to $854.9 million at home and $2.22 billion globally. Titanic’s all-time global revenue is $2.26 billion, which means Spider-Man is now just $44 million away from ousting James Cameron’s 1997 classic from the all-time top five.
At the rate it’s been earning, that gap should close within a week, maybe sooner.
Right now, Brand New Day sits at #6 on the all-time worldwide chart. To put that in broader perspective, here’s where things stand at the top:
- Avatar holds the top spot with $2.9 billion.
- Avengers: Endgame is second with $2.79 billion.
- Titanic and the animated hit Ne Zha 2 are packed close together just ahead of Brand New Day.
- Brand New Day is expected to pass both of them within the next week or two, which would put it at #4.
Domestically, the numbers are just as wild. Brand New Day is now neck and neck with Avengers: Endgame’s domestic total and is expected to pass it any day now, which would make it the second-highest-earning movie ever released in North America. Only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, at $936 million, would still be ahead of it.
The movie has also made a couple of records most Marvel films never touch. It became the fastest film ever to reach $1 billion, and it’s now the most successful solo Marvel superhero movie ever made.
This is not the first time a Marvel movie has pushed Titanic down the chart. When Avengers: Endgame first passed Titanic back in 2019, James Cameron himself took it in stride. He tweeted an image of the Avengers logo sinking the ship, with a caption that read, “An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic.”

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland in his fourth solo outing as Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Brand New Day has now spent four straight weekends at #1, both domestically and worldwide. Its next target after Titanic is Avatar: The Way of Water, which currently sits at #3 all-time.
There is also some competition on the way. Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars opens next weekend and could pull some of the audience Spider-Man has been holding onto. Even Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, currently the #2 movie in the world this weekend and the highest-grossing film of Nolan’s career, hasn’t been able to slow Brand New Day down.
For now, Titanic’s grip on the top five is barely hanging on. The only question left is how many days it has left.
