Sydney Sweeney is making it very clear. She is not going to talk about politics, and she has no plans to do so in the future. The Euphoria star says politics is just not her thing.
In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Sweeney said, “I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts. I’m not here to speak on politics.” She explained that acting and telling stories is what matters most to her. Politics is simply not part of her life.
She added, “That’s not an area I’ve ever even imagined getting into. I became an actor because I love telling stories. I don’t believe in hate in any form. I believe we should all love each other and treat everyone with respect and understanding.”
Even though the world around her is very political, Sweeney is standing by her choice. “I’ve never been here to talk about politics,” she told Cosmopolitan. “I’m here to make art. Some people try to push me into conversations I don’t want to have. They assign ideas and opinions to me that aren’t mine, and I can’t control that.”

Sweeney, who is 28, has had her share of controversies. Last year, she appeared in an American Eagle ad that said, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.” Some people criticized the campaign for promoting the wrong ideas, while others didn’t like its sexualized style.
About the backlash, Sweeney told PEOPLE she was surprised. “I did it because I love the jeans and the brand. I don’t support the views some people connected to it. People put labels on me that just aren’t true,” she said.
For her, being kind is more important than arguing with critics. She told Cosmopolitan that it is strange when people claim she believes something she does not. “It’s uncomfortable to have people talking about what you think when it is not even true,” she said. “It’s weird to watch it happen. I see it online, but I am slowly pulling back. It is just not healthy to keep digesting it all.”
Even with all the noise and public speculation, Sweeney stays focused on her acting. Fans can expect her to continue giving strong performances on screen while keeping her personal political opinions private.
