You won’t believe this bit of Hollywood nostalgia: Bryce Dallas Howard recently disclosed that she had a big childhood crush on Joaquin Phoenix. Yes, the same Joaquin Phoenix from Joker!
On the recent episode of Podcrushed, she talked about this exciting reaction when she knew who her on-screen boyfriend would be in The Village movie.
“I had the biggest crush on Joaquin Phoenix when I was seven years old, and he was Leaf Phoenix, and he was in Parenthood,” she said. “And it was insane being like, ‘Oh, you want me to play a character who’s been in love with this guy, like, her whole life? Sure.'”
Just visualize that mix of happiness and disbelief. Bryce laughed, “It was insane… and no problem!” She also said on a podcast that she was either 11 or 12 when she visited the set of her dad Ron Howard’s movie Apollo 13. During that time, she admitted that she had a crush on Colin Hanks, who was working there as a PA on the movie.
Howard said that her role in The Village was not merely an emotional milestone, but it was a turning point in her professional career. She called her role and experience ‘very magical”. Director M. Night Shyamalan offered her the role after seeing her stage performance in “As You Like It in New York”. While talking about the cast, she praised the entire cast as “unbelievable”.
“That was very, I mean, incredibly courageous of Night to cast me, and he was really supportive,” said Howard.
