Rosie O’Donnell has hosted hundreds of celebrities, but even she didn’t expect one of Hollywood’s nicest guys to be her toughest guest. Talking on ‘Sam Pang Tonight’ in Australia, Rosie shared that Keanu Reeves turned out to be her “worst guest ever.”
The 63-year-old comedian laughed as she remembered the awkward interview from her talk show days. “He’s so sweet. He looks amazing. I love all his movies. But he just wouldn’t answer anything!” Rosie said. “I asked, ‘So, Keanu, how’s it going?’ and he just said, ‘Good.’ We were live and couldn’t retake it. After a few minutes, I told him, ‘You know, Keanu, it’s a talk show. You have to talk!’”
She said her comment was all in good fun. Rosie made it clear she still thinks Reeves is one of the kindest people in the business. “He came back again later and did much better,” she added. “He’s a lovely, good-hearted guy. I don’t want to throw him under the bus.”
Rosie also said that if she really wanted to talk about a tough guest, she could have mentioned Tom Selleck. She remembered their serious 1999 conversation about gun control after the Columbine incident. But when she compared it to Keanu’s quiet interview, she said that one just feels like a funny memory that still makes her laugh.
