Not long ago, Bad Bunny, real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was just hoping to see comedy icon Adam Sandler in person. He now says that he shed tears when he finally saw him.
During a recent joint interview on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ on Tuesday, Bad Bunny shared that he and Sandler had been having a text conversation before they officially met. Bad Bunny used to look around for Adam Sandler whenever he went to a Lakers game, hoping to see if Sandler was there.
“I would say we met through text message,” Bad Bunny opened up. “The first time that I saw him, it was at a Lakers game.”
Sandler said, “That’s right! He was on the other side, sitting way over there.”
Sandler, who was there with his daughters Sadie and Sunny, spotted Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny said that thanks to Sandler’s daughters, who recognized him and started nudging their dad.
“When he [made] the eye contact with me, I was like, ‘Bro!” he added. “I cried.”
He laughed as he remembered the moment when he tried to hold back tears: “I can’t cry courtside,” but it didn’t stop the waterworks. “He knows who I am!” He candidly admitted that he was ‘a little tipsy,’ and that’s why he had been extra emotional.
Bad Bunny said that he attended a Lakers game with his friend, and he told him in excitement, “He’s here.”
“Because I was waiting for that moment!” Bad Bunny continued. “I’d been to a lot of Lakers games. I saw every celebrity, but never Adam Sandler.”
Sandler was clearly touched as well as a bit surprised by the honesty of Bad Bunny.
This connection led them to reunite on-screen in Happy Gilmore 2, the Netflix sequel to the popular 1996 golf movie. The film has big names, not just Adam Sandler and Bad Bunny, but also Travis Kelce and others.
Happy Gilmore 2 will hit Netflix on July 25, 2025.
