Conan O’Brien has spent his whole life making people laugh. Now he says he already knows what kind of joke he wants at the very end of his life. And yes, it involves Paul Rudd and that same prank fans never get tired of.
If you have followed Conan for years, you already know the joke. It started back in 2004 on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Paul Rudd came on the show to promote Friends. He promised a real clip from the finale. Instead, he played a strange scene from the old movie Mac and Me. A child in a wheelchair suddenly rolls off the edge of a cliff. Conan was shocked. The audience lost it. Comedy history was made.
Since that day, Rudd has never let the joke die. Every time he visits Conan, he finds a way to show the same clip again. Different movies. Different shows. Same prank.
This week, it happened again on the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. Rudd was supposed to talk about his new movie Anaconda. Conan already knew what was coming. And still, there it was. The same clip. Again.
While joking about it, Conan shared something unexpected. He said that even if he were lying in a hospital bed near the end of his life, he would still want Paul Rudd to pull the prank. In his story, Rudd brings “good news” from the doctor and shows a medical scan. The scan suddenly turns into the Mac and Me clip. Conan said it would make him truly happy.
Paul Rudd was clearly touched. He said he would be honored to do it.
It was funny. It was warm. And it showed why fans love their friendship. Some jokes never get old. And for Conan O’Brien, this one might be the perfect last laugh.
