The Jonas Brothers are returning to their Disney roots in Camp Rock 3, bringing back their beloved Connect 3 characters while introducing a brand-new group of young musicians ready to make their own summer memories. The Disney Channel Original Movie arrives on Aug. 13, with streaming on Disney+ beginning Aug. 14.
And yes, this reunion is every bit as nostalgic as fans hoped.
Joe Jonas Basically Spoiled the Whole Thing
The road to Camp Rock 3 was hardly a secret mission. Joe Jonas accidentally revealed that he had a script for the movie during a 2025 appearance on Hot Ones Versus, leaving fans wondering whether the long-rumored sequel was actually happening.
Turns out, it was.
Joe admits he had to keep reminding himself to read the script because new drafts kept arriving. He also confesses that he didn’t hate the idea of giving fans a tiny hint.
Translation: the Jonas Brothers may have accidentally leaked the news, but they weren’t exactly heartbroken about it.
The revelation sent longtime fans into a nostalgia spiral, particularly those who grew up watching Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2. But the excitement isn’t limited to millennials who still know every word of âThis Is Me.â A younger generation has discovered the franchise through Disney+ and TikTok, proving that camp-themed musical drama apparently has no expiration date.
The Jonas Brothers Are Embracing Their Questionable Fashion History
If there is one thing the Jonas Brothers aren’t afraid to revisit, it’s their old Camp Rock wardrobe.
Summer scarves. Accessories. Button-down shirts. Ties that had absolutely no business being worn at summer camp.
Kevin, Joe and Nick are now happily joking about the fashion choices that once seemed completely normal. Nick, in particular, admits that his younger self apparently believed a button-down shirt was appropriate camp attire.
To be fair, these were different times.
The brothers even leaned into their teenage fashion nostalgia for their recent photo shoot, proving that sometimes the best way to deal with an embarrassing phase is simply to own it.
A New Generation Is Taking Over Camp Rock
While Connect 3 returns, Camp Rock 3 isn’t simply a trip down memory lane.
The story centers on a new group of campers competing for the chance to open for Connect 3. The cast includes Liamani Segura, Malachi Barton, Lumi Pollack, Casey Trotter and Hudson Stone, among other young performers.
Director Veronica Rodriguez says the challenge was finding the right balance between longtime fans and younger viewers discovering Camp Rock for the first time.
And that’s where the new cast comes in.
Segura plays Sage, a determined young songwriter whose journey echoes some of the qualities fans remember from Demi Lovato’s Mitchie Torres. Sage arrives at camp focused almost entirely on creating a hit song, only to discover that music, friendship and finding yourself might matter more than chasing the biggest possible spotlight.
Meanwhile, Barton plays Fletch, a more complicated character who arrives at camp in a police car and brings plenty of emotional baggage with him.
Because apparently even summer camp needs a little drama.
Meet the Campers Who Might Become the Next Disney Stars
The young cast brings plenty of musical and acting experience to the movie, but some are making major new steps with the franchise.
Stone, who plays Sage’s younger brother Desi, is relatively new to professional acting. As the son of actress Lindsay Price and celebrity chef Curtis Stone, he’s no stranger to show business, but the role gives him a chance to establish himself in his own right.
Trotter plays Cliff, an aspiring drummer and the group’s comedic wildcard. His real-life love of music goes back to childhood, although his musical upbringing leaned more toward Iron Maiden and Metallica than the pop-rock sound of Camp Rock.
Then there’s Pollack, who plays Rosie, a shy cellist. She learned the instrument for the role and admits she was so excited about auditioning that she would have happily accepted almost any job on set.
Backup dancer? Background screamer for Shane Gray? Rosie had options.
And Yes, Demi Lovato Is Coming Back
For months, fans wondered whether Demi Lovato would return as Mitchie.
The answer is officially yes.
Lovato reprises her role, with her onscreen mother Connie also returning. Rather than taking over the story, Mitchie’s appearance is designed to help pass the torch to the next generation.
Lovato has described the reunion as deeply nostalgic, while the Jonas Brothers have admitted that filming with her again felt surreal.
For Joe, stepping back into the Shane and Mitchie dynamic was especially strange in the best possible way. After all, it has been nearly two decades since audiences first watched their characters navigate music, friendship and romance at Camp Rock.
The new cast was equally stunned to see Lovato return.
For some of them, watching Mitchie come back to camp was essentially like meeting a Disney Mount Rushmore figure in real life.
Connect 3 Is Back and Apparently Still Knows How to Rock
The Jonas Brothers return as Shane, Nate and Jason, aka Connect 3.
Although their appearances were initially described as cameos, fans can expect the brothers to play a meaningful role throughout the movie before returning for the big Final Jam.
And because they’re, well, the Jonas Brothers, some of their scenes benefited from a little improvisation.
Director Rodriguez says the brothers occasionally added their own lines, including one Joe delivered that she immediately decided had to stay in the film.
After years of performing together, pretending to be a band isn’t exactly a difficult acting assignment for the trio.
Nick jokes that the brothers were never particularly good dancers, which may be the most honest Camp Rock confession of all time.
The Soundtrack Is Bringing Back the Hits
No Camp Rock movie would be complete without a collection of songs that get stuck in your head for approximately three business weeks.
The new film brings back familiar favorites, with the younger cast putting their own spin on songs including âPlay My Music,â âStart the Partyâ and âWe Rock.â The soundtrack also introduces brand-new songs and musical styles designed to make the franchise feel contemporary.
The new music isn’t simply a copy of the original pop-rock formula either. The soundtrack explores different sounds, including K-pop influences and country crossover.
The Jonas Brothers also have a new Connect 3 song titled âCome on Over.â
So yes, there will be new music to obsess over.
And yes, there is a very real possibility that âWe Rockâ will once again live rent-free in everyone’s head.
Easter Eggs Are Everywhere
If you’re the kind of Camp Rock fan who remembers tiny details from the original movies, Camp Rock 3 apparently has plenty for you to discover.
The film includes callbacks to famous lines, dances and musical moments from the earlier movies. There’s even a nod to the legendary âCamp Rock stomp,â along with references to Shane’s memorable introduction to âStart the Party.â
Some Easter eggs were so well hidden that even members of the new cast didn’t know about them until filming.
It’s basically a nostalgic scavenger hunt, except instead of finding treasure, you find yourself suddenly remembering exactly what you were doing in 2008.
Could Camp Rock 4 Be Next?
Here’s where things get interesting.
The ending of Camp Rock 3 leaves room for another chapter, and director Rodriguez isn’t exactly hiding her enthusiasm for returning to camp again.
She has already joked about manifesting Camp Rock 4, while the Jonas Brothers appear equally open to the idea.
Nick has even entertained the idea of an interconnected Disney universe involving Camp Rock, Descendants and Zombies.
A Camp Rock and Zombies crossover? A musical thriller? A full Disney cinematic universe?
Honestly, at this point, nothing feels impossible.
For now, Camp Rock 3 is focused on passing the microphone to a new generation while giving longtime fans plenty of reasons to smile, sing along and question how nearly 20 years have passed since the first movie.
The Jonas Brothers may have grown up, but apparently Connect 3 never got the memo.
And honestly, we’re not complaining.
