Demi Lovato Brings New Definition to ‘Lit’ with Bikini Photo

The queen of Hot Girl Summer

Ever candid and honest, Lovato has no time for body-image hate

Demi Lovato shut down body-shamers on Instagram this week, as she posted an unedited, unretouched bikini shot showing off her real beauty.

Never one to keep things in, Lovato has long been seen as a beacon of hope for those feeling marginalized by mainstream media. By being vocal and open with her mental health diagnoses, her struggles with addiction, eating disorders, and her vulnerability regarding breakups, Lovato is known for keeping it real with her fans.

Photos of the singer-actress in Bora Bora in the same bikini had been posted on her Instagram previously, and she called herself out for editing those photos by posting an unedited shot from the same day, branding her body confidence for the world to see.

“This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!!” she posted with the photo, keeping up with the honesty and admitting the fear that comes with breaking the traditional mold that mainstream media has presented as picturesque “beauty standards”. “I’m just literally soooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited- and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me. This is what I got.”

Fans were quick to comment and share the post in celebration of Lovato shutting down unattainable standards and the notion that self-worth lies within image.

“so here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me,” she added.
