Lovato wants to discuss what she and others went through acting at a young age.

In her younger years, actress Demi Lovato was known for her roles in the popular Disney channel original Camp Rock films, as well as her leading role in the series Sonny with a Chance. In the years since those productions, she has had some struggles with addiction, but has managed to build herself into a fully-fledged actor. However, many former child stars, especially those employed by Disney in the mid-to-late 2000s, lived through numerous struggles, which Lovato is hoping to expand on.

In an interview with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast earlier this week, Lovato revealed that she is developing a new television project that would go in depth on the lives and struggles of former child stars. Since her time on the Disney Channel, Lovato has maintained regular contact with other former child stars like Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, and the Jonas Brothers, and wants to tell their stories.

“I want to talk to some of those people about their experiences, and other child stars as well,” she said.

In a separate interview with PopCrush held last week, Lovato mused on what she would tell child stars in the industry right now if given the opportunity.

“It’s more important to have a personal life than it is a career at that age,” Lovato said. “I think that’s what got lost in the era of Disney when I was in it. We were all working so hard, running ourselves into the ground.”

“I didn’t have a lot of fun in my downtime.”

“If you want to be a teenager, be a teenager. If you want to do this for a living, maybe wait a little bit until you’re older so you can have life experience under your belt.”
