Even Hollywood’s friendliest faces can land in some pretty awkward situations. Just ask Glen Powell.

The Twisters and Chad Powers star recently opened up on the Therapuss podcast with host Jake Shane about a moment that caught him off guard at a Hollywood party. Powell said he ran into a big-name actor he had always admired, someone whose movies he loved. At first, he was excited to meet them, but things quickly got tricky.

“We said hello, and I told him I was a fan,” Powell shared. But then a photographer showed up asking for a photo of the two together, and that’s when it hit him.

The other star, who Powell didn’t name, had just been “recently canceled” and was dealing with a lot of bad press. “I was a fan of their work but not a fan of their choices,” Powell explained. “When the camera came out, I realized… this guy, his face is toxic. People are reacting to him in a really negative way.”

Powell admitted the celebrity noticed his hesitation. But he didn’t cave in. Instead, he used the moment to reflect on how cancel culture works today. He compared it to his character Russ Holliday in Chad Powers, who struggles to bounce back after a major mistake.

“In today’s world, people don’t let you forget your mistakes,” Powell said.

Despite the awkwardness, Powell is focused on projects that bring real joy to fans. His next one, Chad Powers, drops on Hulu September 30 with a two-episode premiere.
