Halle Berry has confirmed that despite the buzz surrounding cameos in the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds never reached out to her about reprising her role as Storm.
Speaking at the premiere of her new Netflix film The Union, Berry told ComicBook, “No,” when asked if Reynolds had invited her to return as Ororo Munroe, the iconic mutant known for her weather-controlling powers. The Oscar winner shared that she was only approached about the possibility by Blake Lively, Reynolds’ wife. According to Berry, Lively asked her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show if she would be interested in appearing as Storm in Reynolds’ movie. Berry responded affirmatively, saying, “Yeah, if he asked me,” but noted that Reynolds never did.
Berry’s revelation has surprised fans, considering her significant role in the X-Men franchise and her character’s past relationship with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Reynolds, who not only stars in but also co-produced and co-wrote the film, missed a potential opportunity to bring back one of the most memorable characters from the X-Men series.
Berry’s portrayal of Storm spans four films: X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Her character’s fate was notably altered in the final film, where she was killed and then revived by Patrick Stewart’s Professor X. Despite past discussions about a prequel featuring Lupita N’Yongo as a younger Storm, such projects have yet to materialize.
In contrast, while Berry’s Storm was notably absent, other characters from the MCU’s past and potential future made appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine. The film features cameos from Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Henry Cavill as a Wolverine variant, Matthew McConaughey as a cowboy Deadpool, and Chris Evans reprising his role as Johnny Storm from the 2000s Fantastic Four films. Other notable appearances include Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Wesley Snipes as Blade, alongside fan-favorite characters like Toad and Lady Deathstrike.
Berry, however, is not letting this snub dampen her spirits. She recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Catwoman, reflecting with pride on her career. “You can never take away my Oscar,” Berry told Entertainment Weekly. “No matter how bad you bash me! If you say I earned it, I’ll take this, too.”
Despite the absence of Storm in the latest Marvel adventure, Berry continues to shine in her diverse film and television projects.
