Jackman joked Reynolds would be really annoying if he won.

Partially as promotion for 2024’s Deadpool 3 and partially just for entertainment value, actors Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have been engaged in a playful “feud” with one another over the last several months. The actors have been ribbing each other over social media, taking jabs at each others’ success, and generally fooling around.

In the latest chapter in this “feud,” one of Ryan Reynolds songs from the Apple+ film Spirited has entered the running for the 2023 Oscars Best Song category. In an Instagram post, Jackman said that while he likes the song and the movie, he would prefer the song not go up for an award, because if Reynolds wins, he’ll be really annoying about it.

“I really, really wanted to send out a positive message at the beginning of the year, but recent events have made that impossible,” Jackman said.

“Don’t get me wrong, I loved ‘Spirited’. It’s a great movie … I love Will, I love Octavia [Spencer] … the song ‘Good Afternoon’, I laughed the entire way through, it is absolutely brilliant,” he continued. “However, I just heard the Academy have short-listed ‘Good Afternoon’ [for the 2023 Oscars].” Jackman added that Reynolds even receiving the nomination, let alone the award, “would make the next year of my life insufferable.”

“Please, please, from the bottom of my heart, do not validate Ryan Reynolds in this way,” he concluded.
