Hugh Jackman is done playing the nice version of Robin Hood. The first trailer for The Death of Robin Hood is out, and it is dark, bloody, and intense from the very first scene. If you were expecting a fun hero who steals from the rich, this movie is not that story.
Directed by Michael Sarnoski, the filmmaker behind Pig and A Quiet Place Day One, the film shows Robin Hood as a broken and dangerous man. The trailer opens by saying the legend everyone knows is a lie. Robin Hood was never a hero. Jackman’s character does not deny it. He openly admits he is a monster and an outlaw who has killed countless people.
The action is raw and violent. Jackman fights with anger and pain. He shoots sharp arrows, stabs enemies, and leaves behind a trail of blood. It feels very close to his Wolverine days, both in style and attitude. This Robin Hood is older, tired, and clearly haunted by his past.
The movie also stars Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe. Comer plays a mysterious woman who offers Robin a different path. She is not Maid Marian, but her character brings emotion and a softer side to the story. Through her, the film hints at regret, guilt, and maybe even redemption.
This version of Robin Hood is inspired by an old English ballad that focuses on his final days. Sarnoski has said the movie is about a man watching his violent life slowly turn into a legend he does not believe in.
The Death of Robin Hood looks bold, brutal, and very personal. It is not a fairy tale. It is a dark goodbye to a legend, told through blood, pain, and hard truths.
