Sofía Vergara was ready to shine at the 2025 Emmy Awards. However, instead of the red carpet, she made it to the emergency room. The Modern Family star told her fans that she got a sudden allergic reaction in her eye right before sitting in the car.
On Instagram, right after the show wrapped up on CBS, Sofía told everyone what went down. “The craziest allergic reaction in my eye right before getting in the car,” she wrote, adding with her usual humor, “Didn’t make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER. Sorry I had to cancel!”

Vergara was supposed to give out the award for Best Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. Because she couldn’t make it, ‘The Hunting Wives’ stars jumped in and announced Stephen Graham from Netflix’s Adolescence as the winner.
Sofía also shared a few clips and a photo from her rough night. In one video, she can be seen rinsing her eye in a hospital sink. It was visible that she was in pain, but she still kept fans updated.
Her celebrity friends didn’t take long to send love. Terry Crews dropped a sweet “Get well soon!” in the comments. Snoop Dogg simply left praying hand emojis.
Sofía wasn’t the only big name missing from TV’s biggest night. The Bear star Jeremy Allen White also skipped the Emmys for his best friend’s wedding. Bella Ramsey from The Last of Us stayed home, and as usual, Beyoncé didn’t attend the award show.
