It’s official — Wonder Woman is returning to the big screen, and this time, it’s as part of James Gunn’s ambitious reboot of the DC Universe. Right now, DC Universe is developing Chapter 1, which is named “Gods and Monsters” according to the fan-favorite DC characters. Yet, one hero that fans have been waiting for is Wonder Woman.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn, who is the co-CEO of DC Studios, confirmed the status of both “Wonder Woman” and the prequel series “Paradise Lost” that is under development since 2023. While giving an update on Paradise Lost, he said that progress is slow, but they are working on it. Then Gunn said, “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now.”
Casting details haven’t been disclosed yet, but this confirmation by the co-CEO of DC Studio gave a huge relief for fans who had been desperately waiting to know about the character of Diana Prince in the newly revamped DC Universe that is now known as Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.
What This Confirmation Means for the New DC Universe
It is, undoubtedly, definitely exciting that the Wonder Woman movie is in the initial phases of development, but there are multiple crucial factors to consider when it comes to what it actually means for the DC Universe franchise. Based on what Gunn has said before, a film doesn’t move if the script isn’t finalized and his franchise knows exactly how to craft the story and deal with characters.
🚨 NEWS: Gunn says “Wonder Woman's a separate thing. (to the already announced Paradise Lost HBO/Max series, which is) "slow moving, but it's moving. We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now.”#WonderWoman | #DCU | #Superman pic.twitter.com/qxlZGSQdg4

Wonder Woman’s script is being written, but there is no director so far. It clearly shows that the DCU franchise hasn’t started casting anyone. Also, it seems to be that the franchise won’t embark on production for another two years.
As Wonder Woman is among DC’s all-time popular heroes, DC Studios will never go for a solo film for Diana Prince, especially after multiple superhero projects in the DCEU didn’t get a good response or get completely developed. That makes waiting for Diana’s return to the big screen feel more worth it because this is how it will be more rewarding for fans to watch a strong and meticulously crafted Wonder Woman.
Our Take on the Confirmation of the Wonder Woman Movie
Only time will reveal how long fans must wait to see Wonder Woman grace the big screen again. However, it is definitely exciting to have confirmation news that Diana’s story is an essential component for DC Studios. Also, it will be interesting to see who is crafting the story of Wonder Woman because Gunn didn’t disclose the name if he is the person who is writing the story or if it is someone else. We hope that more details on the Wonder Woman film will be in the limelight later in 2025.
