The film is also rumored to be a musical.

2019’s Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role, was an Oscar-winning smash hit, an enthrallingly unsettling tale of a man pushed to his breaking point by an uncaring world. Phoenix received much praise for his performance, with many calling it the best portrayal of the classic villain since the late Heath Ledger. Now it seems another Joker film is on the way, and this time, Phoenix will have a big name for his co-star.

According to a Hollywood Reporter report, singer songwriter Lady Gaga is in talks to star opposite Phoenix in the new Joker film, the title for which was revealed as “Joker: Folie à deux.” Gaga’s precise role in the film has not been revealed, but fans are speculating that she could take up the mantle of Dr. Harleen Quinzel, better known as the Joker’s partner Harley Quinn. Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn would likely be much different than the one we’ve seen from Margot Robbie in the recent Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey films.

In addition to Gaga’s presence in the film, rumors have begun circulating that the film may also be a musical. As the film is being directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, who previously produced Gaga’s own film, A Star is Born, a musical tilt would not be completely out of the question. It would certainly fit in with the Joker’s general vibe of a darkly comedic stage performance.
