The entertainment industry is mourning the tragic and unexpected death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who passed away due to “”asphyxia by submersion” earlier this week. He was 54.
As per local reports, Warner was swimming off the coast of Costa Rica when a strong current caught him. Despite all the rescue efforts, he went under the water and could not be revived. An official autopsy reported that the cause of death was accidental drowning due to asphyxia.
According to a statement from Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), The Cosby Show and Reed Between the Lines star “entered the sea and was apparently swept away by a current. The man was rescued by bystanders and taken to shore, where he received treatment from the Costa Rican Red Cross. However, he was declared lifeless at the scene.”
According to Costa Rican National Police, Warner died due to the accidental drowning when he was on a family vacation.
In a few hours since the death of the actor, tributes have been shared by his esteemed fans and close friends.
Jennifer Love Hewitt poured her heart out online, “This hurts my heart. A gentleman, an incredible talent and we were so lucky to have him in the 9-1-1 family. Heartbroken and sending love to his family.”
Sherri Shepherd said, “As someone who grew up on TV, Malcolm remained one of the most-grounded people I’ve ever met in our business. To know Malcolm was to know a renaissance man that possessed humor, grace, humility and deep cultural appreciation. He was just a good guy! His passing is a true loss to the Hollywood community. He was a proud girl dad and loved his daughter so much. To his family, friends and all who loved him—my heart is with you.”
He leaves behind his partner and a young daughter. His family has requested that they need privacy during this most difficult time.
