Margot Robbie has always come across as confident and fearless, both on and off screen. But long before she became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, she went through moments that were awkward, uncomfortable, and sometimes hurtful. One of those moments still stands out clearly in her mind.
In a recent conversation with singer Charli XCX, Robbie shared a story from the very start of her acting journey. At the time, she was new to the industry, excited about every opportunity, and still learning how things worked. That is when a male co-star handed her a book as a gift.
At first, it seemed harmless.
Then she saw the title.
The book was French Women Don’t Get Fat. Inside, it focused heavily on eating less and staying thin. The message felt obvious. Robbie immediately understood what he was trying to say, and it did not sit well with her at all.
“I was like, f— you, dude,” she said, recalling the moment with honesty and humor.
She explained that it felt like he was quietly telling her that she needed to lose weight. For a young actress who was just starting out, the comment hit harder than it should have. It was confusing, uncomfortable, and honestly, pretty rude.

This happened back in 2007, the same year Robbie landed her first professional roles. She was still finding her footing, working on small projects, and hoping to build a future in acting. Like many young performers, she was already dealing with nerves, pressure, and high expectations. A moment like this only added to that stress.
Still, she kept going.
A few years later, she gained attention in the TV series Pan Am. Then came her breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street, where she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. From there, everything changed.
One powerful performance followed another. Suicide Squad. I, Tonya. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Bombshell. And of course, Barbie, which turned into a global sensation. With every role, Robbie proved her range, her talent, and her ability to own the screen.
Today, she is not just a top actress but also a respected producer, known for backing bold and meaningful stories.
Her next project is Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell. Robbie plays Catherine, starring opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. The film is already creating buzz, especially with Charli XCX releasing its soundtrack alongside the movie.
Robbie has praised Elordi’s performance, calling him intense, emotional, and completely believable. She believes audiences will be blown away.
Fennell also had glowing words for Robbie, describing her as someone with rare presence and star power that instantly commands attention.
By sharing this early experience, Robbie offers a glimpse into the reality many young actors face. Her story is honest, relatable, and important. It reminds people that behind the glamour, there are real struggles, real emotions, and real moments that shape a career.
And sometimes, those moments begin with something as small as a book.
