Saying goodbye to Steve Carell on ‘The Office’ wasn’t easy. Rainn Wilson has recently shared how the cast dealt with the star’s departure from the show.

In a candid new chat on the Good Guys Podcast, Rainn Wilson, who played as Dwight Schrute, talked about his time on the iconic workplace comedy The Office. He expressed that things were uncertain in the first season; however, once the team got the rhythm, the show kept going for eight more years.

Wilson described the reaction of the cast as “chaotic” and confessed that things were definitely uncertain when Steve Carell left the show.

“When Steve left, then it was a little bit chaotic of trying to figure out the tone of the show and who’s the lead and, how are we telling these stories without, you know, the comic engine of the show, which is Michael Scott?” Wilson expressed.

On the question, ‘Did Steve Carell’s exit feel like a ‘gut punch’?’ Wilson responded that it was not a huge surprise to the cast because by then Carell was “such a big movie star at the time”. After leaving The Office in 2011, he starred in the hit rom-com ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’, which showed that he was ready to step into big movie roles.

Wilson once said in an interview that when Steve Carell left, everyone got emotional, and there was not a single dry eye on Steve’s last day on the show.
