The entertainment industry is mourning the heartbreaking loss of actress Daveigh Chase, whose official cause of death has now been confirmed nearly two weeks after her passing. The former child star, best known for her unforgettable performance as Samara Morgan in The Ring, died on June 16 at the age of 35 following a prolonged and deeply personal health battle.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Chase died from acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), the advanced stage of HIV infection. Officials also listed chronic polysubstance use as a contributing factor in her death, while ruling the manner of death as natural.

Before her passing, Chase had been hospitalized in Los Angeles after developing several life-threatening medical complications, including meningitis, sepsis, and multiple blood infections. Her condition reportedly deteriorated rapidly despite receiving medical treatment.

Her longtime partner, Roy Hernandez, had publicly appealed for financial assistance through GoFundMe campaigns in the weeks leading up to her death. In his emotional messages, Hernandez described Chase as someone who had endured years of personal hardship while continuing to search for stability and happiness.

He shared that the couple had experienced homelessness in recent years and revealed that Chase had become critically ill after being diagnosed with meningitis and severe blood infections. Hernandez expressed his wish to provide her with peace, comfort, and a place to call home during what became her final days.

Daveigh Chase rose to international fame in 2002 with her chilling portrayal of Samara Morgan in the hit horror film The Ring. Her talent extended far beyond horror, as she also voiced Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and appeared in popular productions including Donnie Darko, ER, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Big Love. Her performances earned praise for their emotional depth and versatility at a remarkably young age.

Although Chase gradually stepped away from Hollywood after 2013, her performances continued to resonate with audiences around the world. Her final public appearance took place at a Vogue dinner in 2013, while her last known social media activity was recorded in 2017.

Away from the spotlight, however, Chase faced a number of personal challenges. Reports over the years detailed legal issues and struggles that reflected the difficulties she encountered after leaving the entertainment industry. Friends, family members, and former colleagues had reportedly spent years trying to reconnect with her and help her rebuild her life.

Her former manager, John Ryan, revealed that efforts were underway to locate Chase and explore rehabilitation options before her condition worsened. Plans reportedly included helping her recover and eventually relocate for additional support, but those hopes came too late.

The news of Chase’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans who remember her as one of Hollywood’s most memorable child stars. Many have reflected on the lasting impact of her performances while also drawing attention to the importance of compassionate healthcare, mental health support, addiction treatment, and resources for individuals living with HIV.

Daveigh Chase leaves behind a remarkable legacy that spans film, television, and animation. While her life was marked by extraordinary early success and later personal struggles, her unforgettable performances continue to inspire audiences and ensure that her contribution to entertainment will not be forgotten.
