Music can soothe a troubled heart.
When I was little, my dad would play the piano all the time. Usually, he’d just noodle around a bit for fun, but sometimes, if my sister or I were feeling down, he’d bring us into the living room, sit us down, and play us Billy Joel’s “Lullabye.” That was always such a wonderful feeling, and to this day, whenever I hear that song, I feel an inexplicable weight off my shoulders. I say with no intended hyperbole that music is one of the greatest inventions of humanity. Beautiful, touching songs can soothe a troubled soul, even in the most dire times.
One musician has taken it upon herself to deliver those soothing grooves to whoever needs them in these uncertain times of the pandemic. Sheena Melwani is a media artist known for her skillful piano melodies and beautiful singing voice. She’s been in the game for around a decade, utilizing modern musical technology to deliver uplifting beats for the greater good of the world. You may have seen on SheenaTV, her livestreaming show in which she alternates between playing songs and holding thoughtful discussions.
Since the pandemic started, Sheena has taken it upon herself to bring a little light to everyone she can reach. To that end, she has been taking song requests twice a week, posting them as videos on her Facebook page. Additionally, she posts clips of her favorite works to her Instagram, as well as compilations of previous requests. So if you have found yourself in a dark place as a result of everything that’s going on, remember that music can still bring a little joy into your day, and that Sheena is there to provide it, whenever you need it. You can learn more about her music on her website.
