Delaware Charting End of School Mask Mandate

The Governor is establishing a timeline to end the mandate.

This morning, Delaware Governor John Carney announced that his state would be officially ending their universal indoor mask mandate starting on February 11. Following that, next month the state’s school mask mandate will end on March 31.

“We’re in a much better place than we were several weeks ago in the middle of the Omicron surge of Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations,” Carney said.

“I want to be clear about this point — COVID is still circulating in our communities. And the virus still poses a risk of serious illness, particularly among those who are not up to date on their vaccinations,” he added. “But we have the tools to keep ourselves and each other safe.”

The US Centers for Disease Control is still advising that people wear face masks while interacting with one another indoors, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status. While masks have been confirmed to slow the spread of COVID-19 in indoor spaces, after two years of mask wearing, many people across the United States are eager to put an end to masking. As the Biden administration has not offered any official recommendations in regards to mandate timelines, local governments have taken the decision upon themselves, seeking to strike a balance between public safety and appealing to constituents.
