Bruce Springsteen’s new movie, ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere,’ didn’t hit the high note fans were expecting. The film made only $9.1 million in its first weekend after releasing on October 24. It ranked fourth in the U.S. box office. Worldwide, the total reached around $16.1 million after adding $7 million from international markets.
The movie stars Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen and is directed by Scott Cooper. It’s based on Warren Zanes’ book that tells the story of how Springsteen created his famous 1982 album Nebraska. The film focuses on a quiet and emotional chapter of his life. It shows his struggles with loneliness, family issues, and mental health while writing his music.
Director Scott Cooper shared that his goal was to show the real Bruce, not the rock legend. He wanted viewers to see a man dealing with uncertainty and pain, yet still finding his strength through music.
With a production cost of about $55 million and more than 3,400 theaters showing it, the movie had a lot riding on its first weekend. It didn’t perform as expected. However, it still received decent feedback. Viewers gave it a B+ on CinemaScore. Moreover, it holds a 60 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. That means it could still pick up speed through positive word of mouth.
Meanwhile, ‘Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc’ ruled the box office with $17.3 million. ‘Black Phone 2’ took second place with $13 million, and ‘Regretting You’ came in third with $12.8 million. ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere’ may have started slow, but there’s still time for it to connect with audiences.
