The entertainment community continues to reflect on the life and legacy of beloved actor Patrick Muldoon, as officials have now confirmed the cause of his passing earlier this month. The star, widely recognized for his work on Days of Our Lives and the cult sci-fi hit Starship Troopers, died on April 19 at the age of 57.
According to records released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Muldoon’s death was the result of a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack. Medical findings also pointed to underlying health conditions, including a hereditary coagulopathy disorder—affecting normal blood clotting—and a pulmonary embolism, where a blood clot obstructs blood flow in the lungs.
Muldoon was discovered unconscious in his Beverly Hills home after stepping away for a shower. Despite swift emergency response efforts, he could not be revived. He was later cremated on April 28, according to official documentation.
Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon carved out a dynamic career that spanned decades. He first captured audiences as Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives in the early 1990s, later returning to reprise the role years later. His television presence expanded with memorable appearances on Saved by the Bell and Melrose Place, where his portrayal of complex and often antagonistic characters left a lasting impression.
On the big screen, Muldoon became a fan favorite for his role as Zander Barcalow in Starship Troopers, showcasing his versatility and charisma. Beyond acting, he was deeply involved in film production through his company, contributing to projects such as The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, and The Card Counter. He had also been preparing to produce the upcoming film Kockroach, featuring stars like Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz, and Alec Baldwin.
In a poignant twist, Muldoon had shared his excitement about the project just days before his passing, highlighting his enduring passion for storytelling and collaboration.
Tributes have poured in from colleagues and friends across the industry. Actress Alison Sweeney remembered him as “brilliantly talented and endlessly kind,” while his Starship Troopers co-star Dina Meyer described him as “a light who made everyone laugh.” Actress Tori Spelling also shared a heartfelt tribute, calling him “a beautiful soul who brought joy wherever he went.”
Muldoon’s career extended beyond acting and producing—he was also a passionate musician, fronting the rock band The Sleeping Masses. Whether on screen, behind the camera, or on stage, he brought energy, charm, and authenticity to everything he pursued.
He is survived by his partner, family members, and a wide circle of friends and fans who continue to celebrate his life and contributions.
As Hollywood remembers Patrick Muldoon, his work and spirit remain a lasting part of the stories he helped bring to life.
