It’s like an entire tour condensed into a single show!
The pandemic conditions of the past year have required musicians to get a little more creative with how they get their creations to our ears. Touring has obviously been off the table for a while, so instead, some have focused their efforts elsewhere. Some have gravitated toward creating new songs and albums, while others have chosen to interact with their fans on a more casual basis through streaming and social media. But as we’ve long-since learned, just because we can’t be face to face doesn’t mean we can’t send and receive a message, especially if that message is a rock concert on a gigantic screen.
Jon Bon Jovi, the eponymous leader of the classic rock group Bon Jovi, announced on his Twitter on Monday that they will be livestreaming a new concert to over 300 drive-in theaters and regular cinemas on May 22. The show is pre-taped, but every single venue will be screening it at approximately the same time. The event is being managed by Encore Drive-In Nights, a promotional company that has put on similar theater-streamed performances of artists like Blake Shelton, Kate Brown, and Metallica.

“Bon Jovi is a global icon and we’re so happy that the band will be launching our 2021 concert season!” Walter Kinzie, CEO at Encore Drive-In Nights, told NJ.com in a statement. “The pandemic has taught us that there are new avenues for live entertainment and this model is one of the safest and most innovative options for world-class, fun events for the whole family. There are millions of fans who don’t usually attend live shows, whether it’s because they live far away from the big touring arenas or because of the cost. Artists can now connect with these fans in a completely new way.”
Tickets will go on sale this Thursday, April 29, for $68 per car at drive-in theaters, which can accommodate up to six viewers.
