‘Queer Eye’ beauty guru collabs with Essie
Netflix’s “Queer Eye” breakout star, Jonathan Van Ness continues to break barriers with his latest collaboration. The show’s resident hair and beauty guru, Van Ness has become Essie’s first non-female brand ambassador.
The news was shared on Thursday, just in time for PRIDE Month. “Iām so honored to announce Iāve teamed up with @essie as their first nonfemale ambassador in celebration of Pride,” Van Ness wrote on Instagram. “For me, polish has always been a form of self-expression. Right now that means this mosaic rainbow mani moment. Wearing it proud!”
Usually, around this time every year, many brands begin to roll out their PRIDE campaigns, but most tend to not hire actual LGBTQ representation. However, Essie is becoming a major brand to put their money where their mouths are with this Van Ness’ partnership.
“We donāt want to limit people to a collection of Pride colors, because we donāt want anyone to think this is a once-a-year product. Itās every day, yearlong thing,ā said Greg Hui, VP of Essie. “Essie didnāt plan to launch a Pride collection because we donāt want to be seen as taking advantage of a cultural moment.”
