The supernatural thriller will come to a close with its third season.

After premiering in 2020, Locke & Key became a surprise hit on Netflix. Its enticing supernatural mystery combined with likeable and relatable characters led to strong ratings and viewership, prompting Netflix to greenlight it for additional seasons. Netflix announced that the show’s third season will be the last one, and according to the show’s staff, that’ll be the perfect way to close it out.

“Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion,” executive producers and co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith said in a statement. “As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.”

Filming has already wrapped on the last eight episodes of the third season and post-production is underway. Netflix has not yet revealed the date that the final season will be available, though they are expected to release it some time before the end of 2022.
