Nadia’s time-bending journey is only just beginning.
This week, Netflix announced the release date for the second season of its 2019 mystery/drama/comedy, Russian Doll, which will premier next month on April 20. The first season followed Natasha Lyonne in an Emmy-nominated performance as Nadia, a New Yorker who repeatedly lives through the same night of her life, suddenly dying at the end of each loop. It was a fascinating, funny, and occasionally poignant series, though it ended on a bit of an ambiguous note, so those who have been waiting for more will get it soon.
“Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations,” the official description of the second season reads. “At first they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.”
It’s about time.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last month, Lyonne explained that the second season will take place several years after the events of the first season, and is on track to be even more of a mind-twister.
“It’s for sure a puzzle box,” Lyonne said. “With my whole heart, I hope that people watch it all and see where the game goes and lands. I can’t believe we pulled it off.”
