Microsoft Launches Contest to Win a SpongeBob-Themed Xbox

It’s not absorbent or porous, but it is yellow.

The weird thing about SpongeBob SquarePants is that you can slap his image on pretty much anything, and it’ll work. And I don’t just mean a cheap JPEG of him on a t-shirt (though there is plenty of that), I mean corner to corner yellow, holes, and facial features. You wouldn’t think a little yellow square guy would provide such flexible branding, but I guess that’s how Nickelodeon has made his image work all these years. Now, his image has found its way onto something a little less surprising: an Xbox Series X.

Yesterday, Microsoft launched a new contest on the official Xbox Twitter page. To promote the recently released fighting game, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, Microsoft is giving away two super limited-edition Xbox Series X consoles. One is covered in the yellow imagery of SpongeBob SquarePants, looking very much like that time he was trying to visualize a marble sculpture by being the marble. The other console is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed and is a lot less funny, so we don’t really need to go into that. Both consoles come bundled with an Xbox Series X controller, also painted in the colors of their respective console.

To enter to win, all you have to do is follow the Xbox Twitter and retweet the contest post with the contest hashtag. The contest will be running until October 24. Just a heads up, neither of these consoles will be made available in stores at any point in the future, so if you want SpongeBob staring at you while you play for the remainder of the Xbox Series X’s lifespan, this will be your only opportunity to make it happen.
