Velma, Taz, and the Iron Giant are joining the madness.
Back in November, Warner Bros. Games announced MultiVersus, a free-to-play fighting game in a similar vein to Super Smash Bros. starring a variety of characters owned by WB. This includes some classic characters like Batman, Superman, and Bugs Bunny, as well as some curveball picks like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo and Garnet from Steven Universe. Last week, the developers announced an upcoming closed alpha period, but it seems there will be more MultiVersus testing going on throughout the summer.
A new trailer released today revealed that following the closed alpha that will be running from May 19 to May 27, there will then be a closed beta period running from an indeterminate date some time this July. Those interested can register for the alpha period on the MultiVersus website, with registrations for the beta period likely to follow sometime in June or July. The alpha period will be available on all of the game’s planned consoles, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. Like the full game, these early periods will be free to play, though not everyone that registers will be permitted access.

In addition to the early periods, the new trailer revealed several new characters that will be coming to the game: Velma from Scooby-Doo, who will be utilizing much more mundane abilities compared to the empowered Shaggy, the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes, better known as Taz, and even the Iron Giant, who is just giddy to be meeting Superman.
The official release date for the full game has not been revealed yet, though the developers are still shooting for release by the end of 2022.
