Relive the past with a bundle of classic Sonic games.
With the blockbuster success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in theaters, the Blue Blur is once again firmly rooted in the public’s consciousness. As such, it’s as good a time as any for Sega to give us some new Sonic stuff to look forward to. Or, rather, some old Sonic stuff with a fresh coat of paint and quality of life tweaks.
Today, Sega announced that Sonic Origins, an anniversary collection of the first few main Sonic the Hedgehog games, will be releasing on June 23, 2022, for Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Specifically, the games included are the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and most interestingly, Sonic CD, which hasn’t seen a re-release in over a decade.

The collection features both Classic and Anniversary modes. Classic mode is the games as they originally were, with their proper difficulty settings and aspect ratio. Anniversary mode features an HD touch-up, as well as infinite lives so you don’t have to worry about getting a Game Over. You can play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles in all four games, which is especially impressive as Tails and Knuckles weren’t originally part of the first Sonic game or Sonic CD.
The basic version of Sonic Origins will cost $39.99, while the digital deluxe version, which includes an extra difficulty setting and some other fun odds and ends, will cost $44.99.
