Netflix and Mattel have announced that a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe original CG animated series will be hitting the streaming service next year. The new show will reimagine the popular ’80s adventure franchise.

According to a tweet posted by Netflix, “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe wage a new battle against Skeletor in a reimagined take on the classic franchise.”

The story will take place on the planet of Eternia, where a young lost prince discovers the powers of Grayskull and transforms into the heroic He-Man. As He-Man, he will have to face off against the evil Skeletor in order to save the universe.

This new series is part of a major push by Netflix and Mattel to revive the old series television show.

Previously, Netflix announced a 2D animated He-Man series by veteran filmmaker Kevin Smith, titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, which was a continuation of the original cartoon. However, the new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe will be a 3D series and will feature a different storyline from the previous two.

Release dates have yet to be announced, but hopefully the new series will be released sometime next year.
