After a long period of waiting, a release is in sight.
As far back as 2019, fans of Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series have been waiting for new information on the direct sequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Since its initial reveal, this sequel has had the majority of its details kept tightly under wraps, with even its title being withheld. Until today, the game was only known as “the untitled sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” but that’s officially over.
During a new Nintendo Direct presentation this morning, Nintendo finally divulged the full title of the new game: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This title drop was accompanied by some in-game footage showing Link adventuring through a variety of floating islands, using his Sheikah Slate abilities to aid in his traversal. Some of this footage has been shown in previous teaser trailers, while some of it was brand new.

In addition to the title drop, we finally have a release date for this long-anticipated game: May 12, 2023. It seems the game will be releasing just in time for next year’s summer season, once again on the Nintendo Switch. Much of the game, including its plot synopsis, are still under wraps, but Nintendo will likely begin to loosen the proverbial valve as the release comes closer.
