Canadian Rapper Stands Firmly on His Assertion of Innocence

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, who was recently handed a ten-year prison sentence for the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion, took to Instagram to reaffirm his innocence. In a post shared on Thursday, Lanez expressed his unyielding stance, stating, “I have never let a challenging period daunt me, and I won’t allow incarceration to erase me. Regardless of how my words are interpreted, I have consistently maintained my innocence and will continue to do so.”

During his recent court appearance, Lanez took accountability for all verbal and intimate interactions he shared with the individuals concerned, firmly clarifying that he was not apologizing for the charges he believed to be unjustly placed upon him. “I am unwavering in my refusal to apologize for a wrongdoing I did not commit,” he emphasized.

Lanez’s comments emerged just after his sentencing, where he was found guilty of three federal charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and reckless discharge of a firearm. Originally facing a potential 22-year prison term, the rapper’s legal battle concluded with the ten-year sentence.

The incident in question occurred on July 12, 2020, when Megan Thee Stallion, Lanez, and others left a gathering at Kylie Jenner’s residence. Amidst an altercation between Megan and Lanez during the return trip, Lanez reportedly fired shots into the ground around Megan while yelling derogatory remarks. Megan, who testified feeling shocked and terrified, recounted the experience during the trial, saying, “I’m in shock. I’m scared. I hear the gun going off, and I can’t believe he’s shooting at me.”

Lanez’s defense has centered on his maintained innocence throughout the legal proceedings. He stressed that his acknowledgment of shared moments with the involved parties did not equate to an admission of guilt.
