He also outlined Meta’s new company values.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the company formerly known as Facebook, now known as Meta, is going all-in on his branding. Zuckerberg’s ongoing pursuit of the Metaverse has led to an all-encompassing changeover of Facebook’s branding and, as of today, employee and company identity.
Yesterday, in a post on his personal Facebook account, Zuckerberg outlined the company’s new direction, noting that going forward, employees under him will no longer be known as “Facebookers,” but rather as “Metamates.”
In a virtual meeting with his newly-dubbed Metamates, Zuckerberg wanted to impress a new credo upon them, “Meta, Metamates, Me,” derived from the old maritime saying of “ship, shipmates, self.”
“Meta, Metamates, Me is about being good stewards of our company and mission,” Zuckerberg wrote. “It’s about the sense of responsibility we have for our collective success and to each other as teammates. It’s about taking care of our company and each other.”

“At the end of the day, values aren’t what you write on a website but what we hold each other accountable for every day. I encourage you to reflect on these values and what they mean to you as we start working on this next chapter for our company.”
This is all good and well, of course, but with Meta suffering a massive stock sell-off earlier in the month and losing billions in its market cap, it might take more than some old sailing sayings to get the company out of the lurch.
