New season, fresh Apples.
Yesterday, Apple held its latest unveiling event, aptly titled “Spring Loaded” for the Spring season releases. Apple had a bevy of new iterations to its flagship mobile devices, as well as a couple of new tricks up their sleeves.
Starting with tablets, Apple unveiled the new version of the iPad Pro, which features a more powerful processor, 5G compatibility, a Thunderbolt connector port, and a newly revamped mini-LED display. The new model also comes with the new M1 chip installed, which will improve graphical quality and augmented reality features. The new iPad Pro will cost $799 and launch April 30.
Speaking of M1 chips, Apple announced a new line of iMac home computers in bright, pastel colors reminiscent of the classic iMac G3. Thanks to the M1 chip, the new iMac is even flatter and more compact than previous models, though that won’t affect its high-quality processing speed and new and improved cooling power. The iMac’s built-in camera has also been overhauled to better facilitate working from home. The new model will be available in four colors for $1,299, and three special colors for $1,499, which will also include some unspecified additional features. All models are slated to launch some time in the back half of May.
It wasn’t only revamped models, though. Apple also unveiled one of their new gizmos, the AirTag, a small circular device that can be attached to a variety of objects and used as a tracking device, not unlike Tile. The AirTag is compatible with both Siri and Apple’s Find My app. It’s dust and water resistant, and also features a tiny speaker that plays tones while you’re looking for it to make finding it easier. AirTag will be available on April 30 for $29 a pop, or $99 for a four-pack.

Finally, Apple announced the newest iteration of the Apple TV 4K streaming device, now with a new Siri-compatible remote constructed from 100% recycled aluminum. The remote features an updated navigational pad that can be used to click or swipe through menus, as well as a dedicated Siri activation button and a TV power button. The new Apple TV will be available on April 30 for $179 for 32 GB or $199 for 64 GB.
