Fans and fellow celebrities have spoken in support of the pop star.

For over a decade now, pop singer Britney Spears has been under a conservatorship managed primarily by her father Jamie Spears. Under her father’s guardianship, Spears has had a drastically reduced agency in her own life, having very limited access to her own money, little authority over career decisions, and even long-term contraceptive placed in her body to prevent her from becoming pregnant. Yesterday, in front of a Los Angeles Superior Court, Spears made a formal appeal for the conservatorship to be ended.

“I just want my life back,” Spears said when asking Judge Brenda Penny to terminate the conservatorship. “All I want is to own my money and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his car. I want to sue my family.”

“I would like to progressively move forward and I want to have the real deal, I want to be able to get married and have a baby,” she added. “I was told right now in the conservatorship, I’m not able to get married or have a baby.”

Spears’ fans, as well as various celebrity friends and associates, have spoken out in support of her on social media platforms, adding their own demands that the conservatorship be ended and Spears be given the reins of her life back.

“After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time. Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was… what’s happening to her is just not right,” former NSYNC member Justin Timberlake said on his Twitter. “No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body.”

“We hope the courts, and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live,” he concluded.
